Governor Rick Snyder recently urged propane customers in Michigan to get their tanks filled before the heating season starts. Now the Michigan Public Service Commission has issued a new consumer tips sheet on selecting a propane provider. The tips sheet covers pricing agreements, delivery arrangements, fees and other charges, the pros and cons of renting and owning a propane tank, contracts, and a list of helpful questions to ask before signing a contract. PSC Chairman John Quackenbush says even though summer temperatures are still with us, the most important steps a propane customer can take now are to get an early fill and lock in prices ahead of the heating season. Last winter many Michigan propane customers and dealers, especially those in the U.P., faced problems when tight supplies developed as cold temperatures lingered. State officials say Michigan residential customers use more propane than any other state. Some 9 percent of Michigan households use propane as their primary heating fuel.
