Motorcyclist Arrested After High Speed Chase

A motorcyclist is under arrest after leading police on a high speed chase Wednesday.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., a trooper from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post attempted to pull over a motorcycle for speeding on Houghton Canal Road. The suspect fled from the officer at a high rate of speed.

Initially, the chase went south on M-26 out of Houghton, then back again into Portage Township before turning back around again by the Copper Country Mall and heading south on M-26.

Eventually, the suspect surrendered on M-38 near Woodspur Road just outside of Ontonagon.  The chase was about 60 miles total.

The suspect was arrested on multiple felony charges and is currently lodged in the Houghton County Jail.

Houghton City Police, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department and the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Department assisted the MSP in the chase.
