An end-of-summer drunk driving crackdown resulted in more than three-hundred arrests, according to the Michigan State Police (MSP).
351 drunk driving arrests were made and 2,630 seatbelt and child restraint citations were issue during the stepped-up enforcement period that ran from August 21 through Labor Day weekend.
That’s both good and bad news according to Melody Kindraka of the MSP Office of Highway Safety Planning, who says drunk driving arrests were slightly up from last year, but seatbelt citations were down.
Officers also made 152 drug arrests and 41 felony arrests.
According to preliminary reports, 13 people died in traffic accidents over the Labor Day holiday.
Three of those deaths involved alcohol. Five were not wearing seatbelts.
