Michigan business leaders at the Detroit Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference on Mackinac Island say the state needs more skilled trades workers.
During a seminar on Michigan’s Talent Pipeline, CEOs from the state’s manufacturing and energy industries said there’s a talent gap in the state and they are partnering with local universities and community colleges to train workers to fill jobs of the future.
David Dauch, CEO of American Axle and Manufacturing, says manufacturing is a more sophisticated environment today that involves high tech machines. And, he says, they need more skilled trades workers to sustain and grow their business.
The state has launched a series of videos featuring Mike Rowe of “Dirty Jobs” to show students opportunities in skilled trades.
