More Recalls for GM

Already facing a Justice Department criminal probe over faulty ignition switches, General Motors announced yesterday the recall of 1.5 million vehicles. The latest round of recalls include newer sport utility vehicles, luxury sedans and full-size vans. The Detroit automaker says approximately 303,000 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans built between 2009 and 2014 don’t meet head impact requirements for unrestrained occupants. Nearly 64,000 2013 and 2014 Cadillac XTS sedans have a problem with the brake booster pump that can cause the relay plug to dislodge. GM also says 1.2 million SUVs built between 2008 and 2013 have issues with an airbag warning light. GM spokesman Terry Rhadigan said, so far, there are no reports of injuries or deaths related to these recalls. Vehicle owners will be notified. GM officials say they expect to take a charge of $300 million in the first quarter to fix these recalls and the previous recall on defective ignition switches.
