More kids are riding in car safety seats and booster seats, according to a new survey by Wayne State University.
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning released the report that shows booster seat use for 4-to-7-year-olds is at 49.7 percent. That’s up from 42.4 percent in 2013.
Child safety seat use for kids from birth to 3-years-old is at 95.7 percent. That’s up from 93.6 percent two years ago.
However, it also found while child safety and booster seat use has increased, only a quarter of them are used correctly.
The most common misuse was improper positioning of the chest clip, which is supposed to be placed at armpit level.
Michigan law requires children be in a safety or booster seat until age 8 or until they are 4 feet 9 inches tall.
