The group behind the effort to end the hunting of wolves in Michigan is challenging a state law that bars out-of-state circulators from gathering petition signatures. A coalition of groups including Keep Michigan Wolves Protected filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Detroit yesterday arguing that Michigan’s requirement that petition circulators be from the state is unconstitutional. The groups contend the prohibition on non-Michigan residents circulating petitions violates the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution as well as the Constitution’s Commerce Clause.
