Gun violence prevention advocates gathered at the state Capitol on Wednesday to voice their concerns for legislation that would expand Michigan’s concealed weapons law.
The measure would allow concealed weapons on school property, in college dorms and classrooms, bars, day care centers, sports arenas, places of worship, certain entertainment facilities and hospitals.
Kristen Moore with the Michigan Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, calls it dangerous legislation and she fears for her own children if it wins approval.
Moore says the solution to preventing gun violence isn’t forcing guns into our children’s classrooms – it’s keeping guns away from dangerous people in the first place.
The legislation won approval in the Senate Judiciary Committee and is now before the state Senate.
