Mission Statements Revised At Houghon-Portage Township School Board Meeting

The first school board meeting of 2016 started out with a student council report. After which, the board took a look at the High School’s 3D printing lab. Students are working with this state of the art technology to create projects and art pieces.

In administrative reports, the Elementary School is said to have M-STEP standardized test scores that are far above state averages.

The Middle School reported similar results adding that the test, which is taken online, received positive feedback from students.

Houghton High School students are busy with exams this week and preparing for the new semester to start next week.

The district’s vision statement has been revised. The new statement reads, “Our vision is to be a premier school district where all students have the foundations for success and are challenged to reach their full potential.”

New mission statements were written for 2 schools in the district. The new Elementary mission statement is now, “Every Student, Everyday.”

The new statement for the Middle School reads, “The mission of Houghton Middle School is to assist students in reaching their full potential through the teaching of Goals, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.”

The Middle School has been integrating the GRIT acronym into its classrooms.

The mission statements of the Houghton-Portage Township School District and the Houghton High School will remain the same.

The Houghton-Portage Township School’s mission is to provide an excellent education that prepares all students to become productive citizens and life long-learners.

Houghton High School’s mission is to focus on high academic standards as we teach, support, and develop all students to their full potential.
