Missing Calumet Man Found Dead

Kopp, JosephThe search for a missing Calumet man has come to an end.

About 4:30pm Tuesday, the Michigan State Police Calumet Post say they were notified that the body of a man was found in Calumet Township near the Swedetown Ski Trails.

A man was walking his dog when he came across a tent off of one of the trails.

Inside, he found a man at the camp site who was unresponsive so he walked back out and called police.

When Troopers arrived, they identified the body as 44-year-old Joseph Kopp, who had been reported missing on April 4th.

Police say it appears that Kopp had been camping in the woods since he walked away from the Westside Group Home in Calumet.

Cause of death is unknown at this time and an autopsy will be conducted but no foul play is suspected.
