Michigan Tech’s chief information officer Walt Milligan will continue to serve as the university’s CIO while holding a dual position as professor of materials science and engineering. Milligan is retaining his position as CIO, which he has held since 2006, because Dan DeBeaubien recently announced that he is leaving the University for a position in industry. Milligan will report jointly to Provost Max Seel and Vice President for Research David Reed, who oversees the Budget Office. Josh Olson, deputy chief technology officer, will be promoted to the chief technology officer position formerly held by deBeaubien and will report to Milligan. Olson, who has been deputy CTO for three years, holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and an MBA.
