Midsummer Pole Dedication This Saturday

Standing as a symbol of the area’s Finnish culture for the third summer in a row, a Midsummer pole on Finlandia University’s Quincy Green will be dedicated on June 25.

Live music by the Thimbleberry Trio begins at about 11 a.m. at Quincy Green, near the Finnish American Heritage Center. The City of Hancock’s Finnish Theme Committee will provide coffee, and several vendors at the City of Hancock’s Tori Market will have baked goods available. There will be a brief program, and music and refreshments will continue until about 1 p.m.

Along with the Hancock Tori, which will be open for business that day, the first-ever Hancock Art Fair will take place on the Quincy Green that afternoon. That event features a variety of local artisans displaying and selling their creations.

The Midsummer Pole, which will remain standing throughout the season and has proven to be a popular photo stop for tourists and locals alike, is a collaborative effort of the Copper Country Wood Carvers, the City of Hancock Tori, Finlandia University and City of Hancock’s Finnish Theme Committee.
