Mid-summer Pole Dedication

Standing as a symbol of the area’s Finnish culture, and as a testament to the energy created by FinnFest USA 2013, a Midsummer pole on Finlandia University’s Quincy Green will be dedicated tomorrow. David Maki from the Finnish American Heritage Center says the event is part of embracing the Finnish culture.

Live music begins at about 11:30 a.m. and the Finnish Theme Committee will provide coffee and several vendors at the Tori Market will have baked goods available as well. Maki added that you don’t have to be Finnish to attend events like this.

The Midsummer Pole, which will remain standing throughout the season, is a collaborative effort of the Copper Country Wood Carvers, the City of Hancock Tori, Finlandia University and FinnFest USA 2013.
