Michigan’s Christmas Tree Harvest Season Begins

The holidays are just around the corner and in preparation Michigan tree growers have begun harvesting Christmas trees.

Marsha Gray of the Michigan Christmas Tree Association says they expect growers will harvest about two-million trees this year.

She says most of Michigan’s trees will be shipped and sold east of the Rocky Mountains, but Michigan trees can be found anywhere in the nation.

Gray says the state’s most popular tree is the Fraser fir, but they also harvest a lot of Douglas fir and Balsams.

Michigan ranks 3rd in the nation in Christmas tree production, behind Oregon and North Carolina.

Gray says a survey of the state’s tree growers show Christmas trees sales generate around $40 million a year.
