Michigan’s Lyme Disease Risk Grows

Michigan’s risk for Lyme disease continues to grow.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Michigan is among several Midwest states that has seen an expansion of high-risk areas for the illness.

Lyme disease is transmitted by infected deer ticks, so Jennifer Smith of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says if you spend time in a wooded area, make sure to do a tick check.

Smith says if you find a tick and remove it within 24-48 hours, your risk for Lyme disease is greatly reduced.
