Michigan Tech’s spring commencement ceremony will be this Saturday beginning at 10:30am in the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
This year, nearly 1,100 students will be awarded degrees, including almost 300 graduate students.
The guest speaker will be Dr. Susan E. Skochelak, Group Vice President for Medical Education at the American Medical Association, who directs the AMA’s Center for Transforming Medical Education.
A Michigan Tech alumna, she developed and leads the AMA’s Accelerating Change in Medical Education initiative, working to promote innovation that better aligns physician training with the changing needs of our health care system.
The student speaker will be Kyle Yarusso, a Lake Elmo, Minnesota native, who is completing his Bachelor of Science in Applied Ecology and Environmental Science.
After graduation, he will serve as a Centennial Volunteer Ambassador with the Student Conservation Association, a non-profit that inspires lifelong stewardship of the environment.
Down the road, Yarusso plans to attend graduate school to study the human dimensions of environmentalism and conservation.
Finlandia University’s graduation ceremony will take place on Sunday at the Paavo Nurmi Center at 1:30pm.
The 2015 commencement speaker is longtime Professor of English Lauri Anderson.
Finlandia’s Student Representative for the Class of 2015 is Jared Korpela.
Korpela is an accounting major from Hancock who will be receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
