Michigan State Police motor carrier officers and troopers will participate in a two-day coordinated enforcement operation focusing on commercial vehicle crash reduction, along with law enforcement officers from the states of Ohio and Indiana.
This multi-state effort will take place Nov. 3-4, and will include the I-75 corridor in Michigan and Ohio and the I-70 corridor in Ohio and Indiana.
During this initiative, officers will focus on violations by commercial vehicle drivers and passenger car drivers traveling around commercial vehicles.
Officers will target violations that are likely to contribute to a crash including speed, following too closely, improper passing and improper lane use as well as equipment violations such as faulty brakes and tires as these may also contribute to a commercial vehicle crash.
Multi-state commercial vehicle enforcement initiatives allow for neighboring states to align their resources to focus their attention on safety concerns on interstate traffic.
The Michigan State Police participation in these joint initiatives aims to increase the safety of those traveling on Michigan roads.
Additional commercial vehicle initiatives are planned for later this winter.
