Michigan Senator Arrested In Connection With Shooting At His Home

State Senator Virgil Smith was taken into custody Sunday after an alleged shooting at his home.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig says a shotgun was fired at a Mercedes-Benz outside Smith’s home, but would not say who did the shooting.

The vehicle is owned by Smith’s ex-wife, who is also currently his girlfriend.

No one was hurt in the shooting.

The Detroit News reports a police source, who asked to not be identified, says Smith fired shots at the car following a domestic dispute.

Smith is a member of the Democratic party who represents Senate District 4 that stretches from northern Detroit to Southgate.
