Michigan Records First Vaping-Related Death

Michigan has recorded its first death in the widening lung damage problem related to e-cigarette use.

For privacy reasons, no information about the victim is being released, other than it was an adult male.

Thirty lung injury cases believed to be vaping-related have been reported in Michigan over the past two months – all in the lower peninsula. Across the nation, 19 deaths and more than 1,000 injuries have been reported.

Flavored nicotine-based vaping products may no longer be sold in Michigan, but unflavored product is still legal.

Health authorities are encouraging e-cigarette users not to use products purchased “off the street,” and not to modify or add substances to products purchased legally. Youth, young adults and pregnant women should not use vaping products at all.
