Michigan Groups Oppose ICE Raids on Refugees

Forty labor, faith, civil rights and community groups in Michigan are calling on President Obama to end what they call a new round of raids targeting Central American families who the groups say are fleeing their home countries as refugees.

The groups cite the high murder rates in Central America among the reasons they should qualify as legal refugees.

No raids have taken place in Michigan.

The groups are concerned with the Obama Administration’s announcement that there will be raids targeting families for deportation.

More than 100,000 families have come across the southwest border since last year.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation will target only adults and children who already have been ordered removed from the U.S. by an immigration judge.
