Michigan Drivers Less Likely to hit a Deer This Year Says one Insurer

Insurance claims data shows the likelihood of a driver hitting a deer in Michigan has gone down slightly this year, but the cost of the resulting repairs has gone up.

According to State Farm, Michigan motorists are nearly three-point-two percent less likely to collide with a deer than last year.

But, State Farm spokeswoman, Angie Harrier, says drivers that hit a deer will have to pay more to fix the damage. She says the average cost of repair is $4,135, up six percent from 2014 when the average was $3,888.

Harrier says some tips to avoid a car deer crash include, using caution in known deer zones, drive on familiar roads and use high beams when possible.

But if drivers can’t avoid a car deer crash, Harrier says try to avoid swerving, which often causes a more severe accident.
