Michigan’s week of celebrating the great lakes and fresh water started a couple days ago. And there are plenty of options to get out in the water, and to learn more about the great lakes that surround this great state. Great Lakes and Fresh Water Week focuses on becoming a water champion, and inspire residents to champion the health of the lakes ecosystem, and safeguard the lakes for future generations. Today, Energy, Great Lakes and Environment Director, Liesl Clark, will highlight water champion opportunities on the department’s facebook page. Learn some facts about Michigan’s Great lakes with daily trivia, through the DNR’s social media accounts. And learn about how the state is working to preserve and maintain our water systems with a webinar tomorrow.
There are other opportunities to appreciate the Great Lakes throughout the week. Primarily Great Lakes and Fresh Water Week encourages residents, and visitors to enjoy time in lakes, rivers, and streams. Whether you take a dip in the cold depths of Lake Superior or try your luck at sport fishing of Lake Michigan. Be sure to share your pictures of Michigan’s waterways with EGLE on social media, and of course have a great time on the fresh coast.
