MI-TRALE trains over 150 young ATV and ORV riders before the start of the 2024 ATV/ORV season. Helping prepare the next generation of trail club members with knowledgeable safety information and passing state off-road license requirements. This season the Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and the Environment set out to start the western Upper Peninsula youth up with good trail riding habits and safety knowledge over several safety courses. Class began in late April and finished recently with 79 students from Dollar Bay, Lake Linden, and Chassell schools at Camp Nesbit in Ottawa National Forest.
Throughout the training opportunities for local youth MI-TRALE leaders and members helped with instruction alongside DNR officers. Even donating youth equipment for the students to use while practicing how to ride right and completing courses. All youth in the state of Michigan under the age of 16 are required to complete an ORV safety course and obtain a Safety Certificate to carry with them while on trails.
MI-TRALE would like to extend the organization’s gratitude to several individuals and groups that helped to make the youth ORV training opportunities possible DNR Conservation Officers Peter Shambaugh and Jennifer Hanson, MI TRALE board members, and club volunteers Don Helsel, Jon Fourez, Linda Schultz, Dave Bishop, Tim Peacy, Nora Fourez, Heather Palmer, residents Jack and Jacob Reed, Dakotah Callison and DJ Jollimore, school districts Ewen Trout Creek, Watersmeet, Dollar Bay, Lake Linden, and Chassell, businesses Camp Nesbit, Adventure Motel, and Pat’s Motor Sports.
