The Michigan Senate may vote next month on legislation requiring hospitals in Michigan to publicly post charges, including prices of goods and services they offer. The measure was approved by a senate committee Wednesday. Sponsors say hospitals have been charging “outrageous amounts” for small items, and one way to combat that is to require them to post the itemized costs on a website or in print. Hospital officials have said such requirements will only confuse consumers.
