Mi House set to Take up Abortion Bills

The first of several abortion related bills will be heard in the House Criminal Justice Committee this morning.

State Representative Kurt Heise, a Republican, chairs the committee and says videos allegedly showing Planned Parenthood workers offering to sell the body parts of aborted fetuses is driving the legislation.

He says there’s an outcry from the public to take action.

The first batch of bills ban coerced abortion in the state. A second set of bills, which will be taken up in a month or two, address dismemberment abortion.

However State Representative Vanessa Guerra, a Democrat, says there are already laws on the books in Michigan dealing with both coerced abortion and dismemberment abortion.

She believes the hearings are only meant to bash Planned Parenthood.
