A new tax on medical marijuana would be put in place under a two bill package headed to the house floor in Lansing.
It’s contained in bills allowing and regulating medical marijuana provisioning centers as well as edible and topical forms of medical pot.
The first bill in the package allows dispensaries and creates regulations for them. In addition, an eight percent excise tax would be slapped on medical marijuana, in addition to the state’s six percent sales tax.
State and local governments will share in the revenue. Secure transportation of the drug is also required under the measure.
A second bill allows for edible and topical forms of medical cannabis.
