Michigan Democratic Party Chair Brandon Dillon says documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show the Snyder administration used the Flint emergency manager law to lock Flint into drinking water from the Flint River when it agreed to grant the city a $7 million emergency loan.
And it came even after the governor’s office received repeated warnings that the drinking water contained lead and was also associated with the spread of Legionnaire’s disease.
Dillon is also calling on state Treasurer Nick Khouri, the state signatory to the loan deal, to resign or be fired.
Terry Stanton of the Michigan Department of Treasury says the loan agreement included provisions intended to make sure the city was on solid financial footing.
But Dillon calls it a “dirty deal” that amounted to the governor putting finances ahead of the safety and health of people.
Dillon has already called on Governor Snyder to resign.
