The proposed MTEC SmartZone expansion into Marquette took another step forward Thursday. The Marquette Local Development Finance Authority approved the system that would capture tax revenue to pay for the new satellite zone. Former Houghton City Manager Scott MacInnes has been assisting Marquette with its plan… MACINNES. The next step for Marquette will be a public hearing on the proposal. Following that, the City Commission and the state would need to approve the plan. Houghton’s SmartZone authorization expires in 2017.
