Republican candidate for Michigan’s 110th District Greg Markkanen of Hancock made his first formal appearance since announcing he is running for the state house.
A teacher in the Baraga Area Schools and a member of the Hancock City Council, Markkanen says he wants to give residents another option to represent the district.
Markkanen said, “I think there’s a whole group of issues—the economy, obviously, is a top issue. Education, the infrastructure of the 110th district—the roads, the bridges—and utilizing our natural resources properly is very, very important.”
Markkanen spoke briefly at the Houghton County Republican’s Spring Fling.
He is the only registered candidate challenging the incumbent, Democrat Scott Dianda of Calumet.
Michigan’s Primary is August 2nd.
