Man Pleads to Lesser Charge in Bat Assault

An Ontonagon man accused of assaulting another man with a baseball bat has pled guilty to a lesser charge. A trial was originally scheduled to begin last week in Ontonagon County Circuit Court for 28-year-old Nicholas Yakovich, who is charged with felonious assault. Instead of going before a jury, Yakovich decided to plead guilty to a lesser charge of “assault with a dangerous weapon.” Yakovich allegedly attacked a man with a baseball bat in January in Ontonagon Township. He now has a sentencing date scheduled for July 9th.
