Man Drowns Near McLain State Park

A downstate man is dead after apparently drowning in Lake Superior at McLain State Park.

The incident happened Wednesday just before 1:00pm.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Andrew Kneeshaw of Grand Blanc was swimming in the lake when he became stranded and started yelling for help.

A nearby surfer was able to help the swimmer back to the shore and start CPR.

Law enforcement and Mercy Ambulance arrived and continued CPR on scene.

Kneeshaw was then taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium where he was later pronounced dead.
