For the second time in a week, maggots have been found inside food at a Michigan prison. Kitchen workers peeling potatoes on Tuesday at the Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson discovered the maggots. The entire pallet of raw potatoes was thrown out, and the prison kitchen was scrubbed with bleach. Last Friday, larvae and maggots were found at the Parnall Correctional Facility in Jackson. Over the weekend, 30 prisoners fell ill with food poisoning-like symptoms. Food at Michigan prisons is provided by Aramark under a three-year contract with the state. On Tuesday, Governor Rick Snyder said the state might consider canceling that contract.
