Lumberjack Queen Crowned, Fourth Is Celebrated

Baraga Lumberjack Days is underway. Last night, Grand Marshals Phyllis Maki and Lola Gerard were honored at the opening ceremony. Both have been involved with the Lumberjack Days committee as volunteers for nearly four decades. 11 young ladies competed to be named this year’s Lumberjack Queen. The winner is Sonja Welch, who will be a senior at Baraga High School this fall. The first runner-up is Katie Mayo. Amber Lanala-Tervo is the second runner-up, and Vanessa LeClaire was named Miss Congeniality. You can see video of the queen coronation on our Keweenaw Report Facebook page.

Lumberjack Days continues today with a pancake breakfast… a kids’ parade at noon… the main parade at 3:30… the Ray Dompier Memorial Nightshirt Parade at 9:45… and fireworks over the bay at dusk.

– Lake Linden at 9:30
– Copper Harbor at 10:00
– Hubbell and the children’s parade in Mohawk at 10:30
– Ahmeek and Michigamme at 11:00
– Dollar Bay at noon
– Skanee at 1:00
– South Range and Gay at 2:00
