YAC Book & Pajama Drive Underway

youth-advisory-council-book-pajama-driveThe Youth Advisory Council (YAC) of the Keweenaw Community Foundation will be hosting a Holiday Book Drive to benefit local youth.

The YAC encourages the community to donate new and
gently used books and new pajamas for children ages 6-17 years.

Books and pajamas will be given to UP Kids to distribute to children and teens in their many programs—foster care, adoption, and Big Brothers Big Sisters—in time for the holidays.

These programs change the lives of kids, and the book and pajamas have the ability to enrich their holiday season!

The YAC and U.P.Kids agree that books are a very powerful tool to put into the hands of children, and strongly encourage the community to participate in this benefit.

The drive will take place until December 20th.

Drop off locations include the Portage Lake District Library in Houghton, the Keweenaw Community Foundation, the MTU Lakeshore Center, and local school offices.

“For the past two years, we have been delighted with donation turnout from the community and encourage everyone to participate, as books can make a long lasting impact on children in need”, said
Lindsay Sandell, Houghton High School senior.

The Keweenaw Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is comprised of Houghton County students in grades 9-12 from several area high schools.

The purpose of YAC is to strengthen the leadership and charitable commitment of youth by providing opportunities for them to
develop solutions to challenging local youth issues.

YAC has three goals: to engage youth in philanthropy, address the needs of local youth, and engage in community service.

Any student in grades 9-12 in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties is welcome to participate in YAC by contacting the Keweenaw Community Foundation. Visit: http://www.k-c-f.org/
