The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department is opening a 30-day public comment period on the updated U.P. Environmental Health Code.
The Environmental Health code primarily oversees the permitting and construction of on-site sewage systems and water wells in Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon Counties.
Health Department officials say they’ve opened the public comment period after having received “numerous” letters of support from local engineering firms and contractors who design and install on-site sewage systems and water wells.
The current code and draft code are available for viewing at all WUPHD offices and on their website.
Comments may be submitted in writing to WUPHD, 540 Depot Street, Hancock, MI 49930, or via email to requests@wuphd.org.
