Workshop Will Help Parents Guide Children To Make Good Choices

A workshop to guide parents as they help their children avoid drugs and other pitfalls is returning to Baraga County.

Guiding Good Choices is presented by Baraga County Communities that Care and Dial Help.

It’s a five session, interactive parenting program that teaches parents of children between the ages of 9 and 14 how to reduce risk that their children will develop drug problems and other problem behaviors.

Dial Help’s Prevention Coordinator Kevin Weir said, “Guiding Good Choices is for any parent that wants to strengthen family bonds, enhance child-family involvement and learn how to set clear standards for healthy behavior while reducing family conflicts, and it provides their child with tools to reduce peer influence and peer resistance and reduces the risk that a child will develop drug and other alcohol problems.”

Weir said this program can make a difference in helping kids make good choices.

“There’s clear evidence that child raising practices–our attitudes, our values and our behavior as parents–strongly influence whether our children will use drugs or engage in other problem behaviors.  So, as parents, we know we are the strongest influence in our child’s life and development,” said Weir.

The program begins on September 26th and will be held at the L’Anse Public Library.

There’s no cost to attend but registration is required.

To register, call Kevin Weir at (906) 482-9077.
