Woman Trapped, Injured in Two-Car Crash

A driver was hospitalized after a traffic collision trapped her in her car just north of the Houghton County Memorial Airport this morning.

State Police troopers tell us that 32-year-old Rebekkah Mikkola was southbound on US-41 around 8:00. A northbound vehicle driven by 77-year-old Lila Hobmeier made a left turn onto Highway Road, and struck Mikkola’s vehicle near the driver’s side door.

Mikkola’s vehicle veered off the road, and landed in a ditch. She was injured, and unable to get out.

Members of the Calumet Township Fire Department were able to free her.

She was taken to UP Health System-Portage by Mercy EMS, where she is reported to be in stable condition. The crash remains under investigation.
