Woman Killed In Motorcycle Accident

One person is dead following a motorcycle accident Wednesday in Chassell Township.

Michigan State Police say the accident happened around 3:30 in the afternoon on US-41 at Portage Entry Road.

A vehicle was reportedly waiting to make a left turn when it was struck by a motorcycle from behind.

22-year-old Mackenzie Roelse was on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say she was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, 17-year-old Madeline Lehman of Houghton, sought her own treatment for minor injuries.

Police believe Roelse may have been distracted and did not see the vehicle stopped in front of her, until it was too late to avoid the crash.
