Woman Airlifted To Hospital After Falling While Ice Climbing

An aircrew with the United States Coast Guard helped rescue an injured ice climber Friday evening in Munising.

The climber fell while ice climbing at Pictured Rocks Ice Caves.

She suffered injuries to her head and back.

Due to her location and surrounding terrain, a ground evacuation was not possible.

The Coast Guard aircrew traveled from Traverse City to Munising and flew the woman by helicopter to Munising Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The victim’s name is not being released.
