Wisconsin Man Killed In Snowmobile Crash In Allouez Township

A Wisconsin man is dead following a snowmobile accident in Keweenaw County.

Deputies from the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene of the accident Thursday afternoon around 12:30 on Trail #3, 1.3 miles north of US 41 in Allouez Township.

Authorities say a 2015 Skidoo snowmobile driven by 58-year-old Dale Wiza of Franklin, Wisconsin was traveling northeast on the trail near Seneca Lake when he lost control of the vehicle while making a turn, causing the snowmobile to roll.

The Keweenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced Wiza dead at the scene.

Speed is believed to have been a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were assisted by the Ahmeek Village Off Road Rescue Unit, Allouez Township Medical First Responders, Mercy Ambulance and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.
