Whitmer Appoints New MTU Trustee, One Returnee

The Michigan Tech Board of Trustees is getting a new member.

As part of a series of appointments yesterday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer nominated Matthew Johnson of Marquette and Monique Wells of Chelsea for terms on the board.

Johnson is being reappointed. He is manager of External Relations at Eagle Mine in Champion, and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Michigan University.

Wells will become the newest member of the board. She is the director of diversity, equity, and inclusion at DTE Energy. She has a bachelor’s degree from Tech, and a master’s from the University of Toledo. She succeeds Brenda Ryan, the current board vice-chair.

Both appointments must be confirmed by the state senate.
