White Out Leads To Multi-Vehicle Accident

A three-vehicle accident Wednesday night in L’Anse Township sent three people, including two children, to the hospital.

According to the Baraga County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on US-41 near Canyon Falls. A northbound vehicle driven by Ryan Thomas, 32, of Marquette, collided head-on with a southbound vehicle driven by James Tricka, 55, of Bessemer.

Tricka’s vehicle was then struck by a northbound semi-truck, driven by Brad Trudell, 39, of Calumet. Two children, ages 5 and 7, were passengers in the Thomas vehicle. They were transported to UP Health System – Marquette for treatment.

Thomas was extricated from his vehicle by the Jaws of Life. He was transported to Baraga County Memorial Hospital and later to UP Health System – Marquette.

Tricka and a passenger in his vehicle sought their own medical treatment. Trudell was uninjured in the crash.

Whiteout conditions were reported at the time of the accident, which at this time remains under investigation.
