Western Upper Peninsula Health Department Lifts Advisory In Hubbell

Back in April of 2018, the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department, issued an advisory, urging the community to stay clear of a 1,000 foot section of M-26 near the C & H Mineral Building in Hubbell.

The advisory has now been lifted.

The advisory was originally issued, due to physical hazards, along with the potential for the public to be exposed to asbestos.

The property owner, Silver Shore Enterprise Inc, worked together with the EPA and EGLE, to clean up the site, and eliminate the risk of exposure to asbestos.

The soil which contained the asbestos, has been removed, and replaced with new topsoil.

The area has also been reseeded and mulched.

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department has received the confirmation that the work needed to remove the risk to the public had been completed.

People can now resume activities in the area.
