The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department has now jumped into the Coronavirus fight.
They are taking steps to prevent an outbreak, which has seen dramatic increases in confirmed cases in the US, over the last week.
Health Officer Cathryn Beer said “Strong prevention efforts are our best defense against this illness.”
To date, Michigan has no known cases, however, hundreds of people have been monitored for symptoms which include fever, coughing and shortness of breath.
It is still recommended people frequently wash their hands, cover their nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing and staying home while sick.
Businesses are also being encouraged to review emergency plans, in the event employees are forced to work from home.
The US Department of State, is advising against traveling on cruise ships for the time being.
The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department is also working with federal, state and local officials to coordinate response efforts.
