West Iron, Baraga Schools Receiving School Safety Grant

The following press release was issued by Representative Markkanen’s office:

State Rep. Greg Markkanen of Hancock, announced today that West Iron County Schools will receive over $46,000 and Baraga Area Schools will receive over $96,000 to bolster safety in each school.

“The greatest resources we have are our children and young people,” Markkanen said.  “As a former school teacher, keeping our youth safe in their schools is a top priority of mine. This is a great step in the right direction and I applaud the Michigan State Police for all they do to keep our communities secure.”

Over 130 public school districts, 66 non-public schools, 20 public charter schools and nine intermediate school districts will receive $25 million in grants from the 2019 Competitive School Safety Grant Program. The money will be used to purchase technology and equipment that will improve safety and security of students, staff and school buildings.
