Weather Boosts Porcupine Mountains Music Festival

Good weather helped produce a big turnout for this year’s Porcupine Mountains Music Festival.

Organizer Cheryl Sundberg put it in the “win” column…

Every year we can put the festival on, and it we get through it, and we have everybody happy, it’s a success.

The 18th annual festival was held Friday and Saturday at the ski hill at Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. It featured 13 national and international roots music groups, including Friday headliners The Brevet, and Saturday headliner Miko Marks. More than 30 local and regional acts performed at the event’s auxiliary venues.

Attendance figures have not been finalized, but long-time volunteers felt the crowd was among the festival’s largest.

For organizers, there’s very little time off before planning for next year’s event begins…

We’ll have our wrap-up meeting in September, and we’ll be seeing who’s ready to roll starting in October, and we’ll get back at it.
Fans dance to music from the British duo The Ruen Brothers and their band.

Sundberg says the event needs additional volunteers, particularly younger community members who could understudy and eventually take over leadership roles. To learn about volunteer opportunities, visit the festival website.
