Volunteers Still Needed for Copper Dog 150

Volunteers are still needed for this year’s Copperdog 150.

Doug Harrer and Krissy Kovachich previewed this year’s race.

Kovachcich spoke of the quality of the volunteers, which have kept the race around for 11 years, while other races have fizzled out.

This Saturday, is the hands on volunteer training at Calumet High School from 11a-1p.

The first hour is indoors, the second hour is outside, with dogs provided by Tom Bauer.

They also discussed the movie “The Great Alaskan Race” coming to the Calumet Theater on February 27th, the eve of the race kick off.

The movie chronicles the mushers and dogs who raced to bring the antidotal serum to the city  of Nome, Alaska, to save the city from a Diptheria outbreak.

The route traveled, inspired the route for the now famous Iditarod Dog Sled Race.

The movies producer and star will be there for a meet and greet. The movie starts at 7:30p. 

A second showing, has been scheduled for Leap day, February 29th at 5:30p.
