Volunteers Needed For Canal Run

The 44th annual Canal Run is coming up next month and they need your help.

Over 80 volunteers are still needed to put on the event July 20th and UP Health System Portage Health & Fitness Manager Angela Luskin says it’s the volunteers who make the race possible.  “It takes over 150 volunteers to make the Canal Run happen and each year amazing volunteers come forward,” said Luskin.

The Canal Run features a half marathon, 10 and 5 mile run & walk, a 2 mile fun run & walk, a half marathon wheelchair race, a 5 mile blade run, and the Kids Dash.

There are many different ways to volunteer for both individuals and for groups.  Luskin said, “We need help with water stops, and a lot of help with water stops. This year we are looking for, if there is a business or organization, if you want to take an aid station an man it with people from your organization, we’d love to see that. We need backup timers, we need road crossing patrol people, we need people at the dispensing table at the finish line to help with awards, Kids Dash would be another one that we need volunteers for.”

Registration for the race and information on volunteering can be found on www.Canal.run.

Online registration closes Wednesday of race week at midnight.

Last-minute registration will be held Friday, July 19 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Finnish American Heritage Center.
