Tonight you can watch a discussion regarding a subject Yoopers are watching with great interest.
Line 5: What’s the fuss?
A virtual discussion, presented by the Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition, will feature U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and retired wildlife biologist Jeff Towner and Mike Ripley from the Chippewa Ottawa Resource Authority discuss the pros and cons of allowing Canadian Oil Company Enbridge, to rebuild a new Line 5, which would carry crude oil across the Upper Peninsula, and crosses the Straits of Mackinac.
Towner will explain regulatory paths Enbridge must follow to get the approval to start construction, while Ripley will discuss tribal efforts aimed at shutting down the project, due to dangers of a spill, and the impact on native fisheries.
The discussion starts at 6pm, and links to join are available here, here and upec@upenvironment.org.” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>here.
