Houghton County is one of nine recipients in northern Michigan of funds from the US Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development.
A grant of $24,400 will go toward the purchase of a new patrol vehicle for the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department.
Congressman Jack Bergman said, “I’m thankful that President Trump and Secretary Perdue continue investing in rural communities across northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Through the Community Facilities Grant Program, USDA Rural Development has continued to show its commitment to First District constituents and the safety and well-being of rural residents.”
USDA Rural Development says the addition of the vehicle will increase the protection and emergency services available to residents throughout the county.
The total cost of the project is just under $44,500 with the county investing the remaining funds.
